“Simpang Bedok has loads to eat.”
It’s a statement I keep hearing from my friends who stay in the vicinity. I’ve went there a few times with my last visit to a mediocre halal cafe serving out of proportion food. While I don’t think the place is as vibrant as Tiong Barhu or as hippy as Duxton Hill, it does have a few specks of neat places to check out. But for most of the time, Simpang Bedok does resemble a sleepy town where people drop by after work for something casual.
BLIC Ice Cream Cafe is one neat place to check out. They used to be located at Tampines just a stone throw away from my house. Well not exactly a brisk walk but it’s almost like a weekend after-exercise treat! Just grab am ice cream on a cone sit back and relax in an air-con room.
What an ideal weekend right?
Many years on, they shifted down to their current location and I managed to visit the cafe. They don’t have an array of different flavours to showoff but hey! Quality over quantity that’s what my mum always say. But maybe it’s because I’ve found my definition of good ice creams. I no longer find their flavoured scoop as enjoyable as it used to be. Their Strawberry and Vanilla was more milky than most parlours and I could barely savor the fruity or vanilla beans taste.
Peppermint on the other hand fare better but I’m hardly a fan of any minty food but Hazelnut Latte definitely hits the spot! Then again, at $5.00 for 2 classic scoops or $7.80 for 2 premium ones, BLIC isn’t very friendly to the wallet especially if you’re a student with marginal allownace. So would you be making a special trip down just for their ice creams? I shall leave you to decide but if I were you, I will head on to other parlours instead.
They do have a few alcoholic ones and we just couldn’t resist getting a scoop of Rum & Raisins. I can’t exactly remember why it’s a must-have flavour between me and two of my close friends. BLIC’s rendition of our favourite was good but nothing comparable to the other ice cream parlours I’ve been raving about. Don’t get me wrong and think that it isn’t good but for the price I’m paying, I might as well head for the best one instead.
