It was a pre-planned birthday dinner and I have somewhere else in mind. I am a food blogger and I naturally have somewhere else in mind. Places I want to try and dying to visit. But when my friend said she has cravings for xiao long bao and never tried Din Tai Fung before, I immediately dropped the idea and told her we were so going there! I was very surprised since my dinner partner who happens to be my best poly friend, cafe-hopped with me during our schooling days.
I tried Din Tai Fung a lot of times. I have tried almost everything and I know what’s good. Everyone has their own favourite over at DTF but in my opinion, these are some must order dishes: the crystal clear steamed chicken soup simmered for hours almost akin to drinking pure chicken essence, their fragrant and fried rice with egg evenly coated across Taiwanese pearl rice. The petite appetisers like the oriental salad with special vinegar dressing & mini cucumber in spicy sauce to kick start your meal. It was just only two of us so there’s no point order too many.
Do try their Steamed Yam Dumplings (6 for $6.30/10 for $8.80) for an after dinner sweet treat. They taste almost the same as the Teochew Yam Paste dessert. I’ve yet to try the red bean variation and I saw another rendition of their xiao long bao with red bean and chocolate lava too?! That’s something I shall try next time.
I tend to avoid certain outlets not because there were differences in my various dining experiences but rather I don’t to wait in snake-like queues that I often see at Tampines Mall, Nex, Marina Bay Sands and Raffles City. Those are just some of the more popular outlets.
This outlet at Wisma Atria has really good service. Food was served piping hot promptly and our tea cups were almost always full. Do note that DTF do not accept online/email reservations.
