It has never occur to me to try any Korean restaurants in Singapore simply because I had the best experience back in Seoul a long time ago. Everything there was delicious even the street food felt a million times better even though it’s just spicy rice cake or skewered meat on grill drizzled with sweet and spicy sauce. I’m not into the Korean culture but now how I wished I was back in Seoul again.
I think I could say Han Geun Doo Geun was my first time having proper Korean food? Their menu has seen a lot of wear and tear but for a two years old restaurant, the space was tidy and neat. And I strongly recommend coming here for their Korean BBQ Buffet too. Set aside the different types of meat (Beef, chicken & pork) available, it has a buffet station with the standard Korean side dishes and condiments too. As if the free flow plates of meat cuts and appetisers are not enough to fill you up, there are 24 ala carte noodles, rice and stew dishes to choose from. And yes, all free flow too. I thoroughly enjoyed most of the dishes off the ala carte menu. We weren’t expecting a lot from their Samgye Tang (Korean Ginseng Chicken Soup). We thought it would be diluted with little or no ginseng taste but it was relatively rich and strong.
The spicy Kimchi Jjigae (Kimchi Stew) is another good choice if you’re looking for something soupy to kick start the dinner feast. Main course wise, the Kimchi Jeon (Korean Kichi Pancake) with chopped kimchi and squid as well as their Ojingeo Bokkeum (Stir-fry Squid and Vegetables in Chilli Sauce sealed my impression of their quality and freshness. Dont be influenced by me, I think you should other stuffs like the various dumplings and rice dishes for yourself too.
I think paying S$26.90++ for lunch, S$36.90++ for dinner is not expensive considering the quality of their marinated meat as well as the variety of ala carte dishes all for one fixed price. Service was approachable and they changed our hot metal grill which chars very fast frequently. Drinks on the other hand, are not free but I reckon you can spare a few extra bucks for fizzy drinks. You will need to quench your thirst from eating so much BBQ food right?
I am not interested in their set lunches but I certainly don’t mind returning Han Geun Doo Geun for more of their dinner buffet. Better make reservations before dropping down because it was full house when I went on a Sunday night.
