Perched up the Duxton Hill and surrounded by trendy modern gastrobars is L’Entrecote. Famous for their one and only main dish; steak frites and they are perhaps one of the only other two known restaurants has the same concept in Singapore. The other being Les Bouchons just situated across the road at Ann Siang Hill which I didn’t quite enjoy their (Les Bouchons) steak and fries on my previous visit.
It’s really another one of those places I forgotten since I first step foot onto the hill. It was only until I learnt of news from my friends about their third and latest outlet which was opened its doors at Suntec in September 2013. I’m guessing they have to well-received since they’re already planning to expand the business. To be honest, I was more attracted to their desserts menu than everything else when I saw it on their facebook page.
Reservations are not allowed so try to avoid the lunch and dinner crowds as it can get really noisy. Service was really commendable since I could only counted two staffs attending to maybe five or six tables. The complimentary wine and bread was equally good too but I do wished we could have more dining space to spare. I reckon if we order any of their starters (which I was really tempted to), we might really need to request for bigger table already.
My partner and I just went ahead with their signature Steak Frites ($29.90) which was a plate of medium rare beef cut accompanied by a heap of fries. Regardless of what you opt for the wellness of your steaks, the highlights of the dish was certainly the carefully guarded secret brown sauce so generously drizzled on the beef cuts. To ensure that the steaks are still warm and palatable, they actually keep the second serving on a warmer until later.
For a well-prepared steak under $30 and the friendly service the two of us received, I don’t think its really expensive considering the comforting casual dining ambiance at their flagship bistro. I really enjoyed dining at L’Entrecote and I wouldn’t mind returning again maybe next time, I’ll consider their desserts too.
