Tiong Bahru Bakery Raffles City Singapore III

IMG_3969 (FILEminimizer) Every time I head out to meet someone, I try my best to bring them somewhere new. Not just because I want to write something fresh on this blog, but I like to see the wows on their face too. I take that as a personal accomplishment when I see my friends enjoying the entire dining process. However, the other side of me is always lazy and the places I have been wanting to try is just too out of the way.

I have such conflicting personality eh?

So I always end up at cafes I frequently go. Well if the food are fantastic, the service is great and my friends wouldn’t mind going back again and again, why not? IMG_3981 (FILEminimizer)I will go back any time of the day just for their crossiants. Apart from ABC, I still have yet to find another bakery in Singapore that could rival them. I was not at their flagship shop that evening but I suppose they have a central kitchen supplying all their breads to the two other outlets in town.

The one at Raffles City basement is more spacious but in my opinion, too open and slightly uncomfortable with the occasional passer-by peering over at bread on your table. Set that aside, I suppose people who come here are office guys and ladies who don’t have the luxury of time to sit for tea.
IMG_3980 (FILEminimizer)I am aware they have three new kouign amann and they are: Gula Melaka & Chocolate, Gula Melaka & Grated Coconut, Gula Melaka & Crushed Peanuts. I saw them and was tempted to buy one of each to try for myself. I read from here and here that they quite good.

Instead, we got ourselves the Apple Cinnamon ($4.50) variation and I must say this is going to list of to-try stuffs visiting Tiong Bahru Bakery. The caramelised apples within the folds coupled with the sweet woodsy taste of the brown spice was a simply addictive.
IMG_3974 (FILEminimizer)I recall when the brand first opened in Singapore, it was the talk of the town. Some mentioned that they weren’t deserving of the hype while others reckon artisan bakeries are just a temporary trend. If you ask me, I say this bakery is deserving of all those attention. Their dedication to the craft is definitely worth coming back again and again.

Perhaps I shall organise one big outing with more like-minded friends eager to try their sandwiches and tarts someday. Perfect excuse to try most if not all their bread once and for all!
